Personal Learning Path 3

For the next blog post, I am going to change topics from area, perimeter, and volume to long division. I wanted to work on a blog post on long division for two reasons. First, because this is one of the first topics I remember learning about in school and feeling very overwhelmed. Secondly, because of calculators on my phone and computer, I haven't actually practiced long division in years and need to refresh before teaching it myself! The lesson aligns with CCSS.Math.Content.6.NS.B.2 Fluently divide multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm. The resource I am sharing is from PBS learning. I especially like this resource because it is a thorough and adaptable lesson. Personal Learning Path 2

For my next activiy I wanted to expand on my last post on geometry and measuring perimeter and area. I wanted to explore another medium of learning for students who maybe are not tactile learners or who need more review before moving on. I would have my students work on computers playing a game "Alfalfa's Out of the Box: Perimeter, Area, and Addition".  https://www.education.com/game/alfalfas-out-of-the-box-perimeter-and-area/ This game meets the same standards: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.A.3 Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor. Personal Learning Path 1

  Personal Learning Path Post 1 One issue that I find students in middle school struggle with is finding the area, perimeter, and volume of a shape (such as a rectangle or square box). The project that I would like to implement in my classroom is based off of a project that I did myself in middle school.  Step 1 save a box of any size (ex. Shoe box, cereal box, etc.  Step 2. Students will then use a ruler to measure each side of the box and fill in the chart  Measurement  Size (in inches)  Length  Width Height  Step 3.
